Spring is definitely in the air over here!

You know it’s the start of the season when the days pass by quickly, and you fall asleep before your head hits the pillow. It’s always an exciting time on farm though. Everything comes to life, babies are born, and the sun keeps us working much later than we should. Both of our Mama goats had kids a couple of months ago; so we were able to get a good amount of milk to put back for future soap making. They both had all bucklings; so unfortunately we won’t be keeping any for ourselves this year. As they say, this was a “buck year” for us.

Dan is busy with the bees right now, and I have been helping him paint his bee boxes. He is very excited to be successfully raising Queens. All of his hard work is surely paying off! The bees are already in full swing too-working hard making lots of honey right now.

Our youngest son has been hatching out his duck eggs. He welcomed 4 new little ducklings to the farm last week! His love for ducks always makes me smile! I think all of our new chickens are finally laying now. I’m relieved to not have to buy them from the store! I think that was the first time we have had to buy eggs from the store in years. Of course it had to be when the prices were at an all time high as well.

The mushroom bed I planted last fall started producing some mushrooms for us this week. I’ve already harvested 2 gallons worth. I put some in the dehydrator last night so we can enjoy them throughout the year. Always a busy time, but it is also a fruitful one. Nothing makes me more excited than to see things growing, and babies being born here. We are also preparing for this upcoming farmer’s market season. We are quickly filling up on other shows as well, and cannot wait to see everyone this summer! Now, to find some time to balance everything, and to remind ourselves that Rome was not built in a day and it is OK to rest!
